Unbroken: A World War 11 Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand

I loved the movie but the book was so much more detailed and thrilling.

The true life story of Louis Zamperini. The American Olympiad who shook the hand of Adolf Hitler during the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He served as a bombardier in the Pacific in the 2nd World War. Zamperini’s plane crashed in the ocean during a rescue mission. He drifted in the ocean for 47 days surrounded by sharks and eventually was captured by the Japanese. He suffered beating, starvation, humiliation and torture as a prisoner of war. He struggled to overcome the effects of his prisoner of war experiences. He found peace at the Los Angeles Billy Graham Crusade. “In a single, silent moment, his rage, his fear, his humiliation and helplessness, had fallen away. That morning, he believed, he was a new creation.”
